Campaign themes
2014
McCorquodale's Facebook page highlighted the following issues:[1]
- Excerpt: "The state of Delaware needs to formulate and implement a Green Jobs program. The current administration has been floundering around giving money away to corporations from other places to start businesses in Delaware. Delmarva ratepayers are forced to subsidize Bloom, millions were given away to Fisker, an old oil refinery, which should have been demolished, is bringing in some of the dirtiest crude oil by rail through Delaware municipalities. Meanwhile the state has committed a mere pittance to renewable energy. The state should be funding a state-wide insulating project of energy inefficient buildings and encouraging solar roofs and wind projects. Many businesses could be created in this state and many jobs would follow."
- Excerpt: "Anyone who works a full-time job deserves to make a living on which they can survive without government assistance. Not only do I support an increase in the minimum wage, I believe people deserve to make a living wage. My opponent has written that he supports LOWERING the minimum wage for certain groups."
- Excerpt: "It's clear the world is facing an environmental crisis, which is going to strike Delaware particularly hard as it is the state with the lowest average elevation. We must do all we can to reduce carbon emissions by encouraging renewable energy, mass transportation, walkable neighborhoods, and local produce. Much of the 21st district was once farmland. It could still be a fertile area to grow food, rather than being as a place for chemically treated, manicured lawns."
- Excerpt: "Local control of education. All of the money thrown at school districts by the federal government with restrictions on how things are to be taught has really gotten away from the goal of well-rounded educated citizens and more toward teaching to the test. Charter schools, which do not have to take in everyone as do public schools, are leading to the depletion of public school funding and the economic resegregation of our schools."
