Issues

Political philosophy

Hein submitted the following statement to Ballotpedia:

I strongly believe in letting Colorado determine what is best for Colorado. Using the strong precedent of the Tenth Amendment I would propose and support legislation that:

Nullifies NSA and federal agent overreach in Colorado - protecting the Fourth Amendment Rights of Colorado citizens Ends Colorado's participation in Common Core - putting the power in teachers and parents hands Cuts unnecessary programs and expenditures - focusing on what government really needs to get done Protects every citizen's Second Amendment right to firearms Fixes our broken immigration system at the state level - accelerate the path to visas / citizenship and amnesty for Coloradans who have been here for years Removes federal regulation of intrastate commerce - allowing Coloradans to decide how Colorado goods and services are regulated Gets the government out the marriage business - whom a person chooses to love and live with is their decision[2]

Campaign themes

2014

Hein's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[7]

Individual Liberty

  • Excerpt: "The most important piece of our society is our guarantee to individual liberty. This manifests in two ways: economic freedoms and civil liberties."

Economy

  • Excerpt: "You don’t have to look very far to see the effects of our broken economy. Joblessness, homelessness, and crippling government debt are all but ubiquitous. The solution is the same solution each one of us takes with our own personal finances: cut spending, pay off our debt, and maintain strong fiscal responsibility."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Education is a crucial piece in the road to better tomorrow. Giving our local teachers and parents the control over their children’s education is paramount to ensuring the best possible education."

Fourth Amendment Rights

  • Excerpt: "The Fourth Amendment protects our right from unlawful policing and secures the notion that those suspected of a crime are innocent until proven guilty. The Fourth Amendment is a cornerstone that defends our civil liberties and it must be protected."

Second Amendment Rights

  • Excerpt: "The Second Amendment to the Constitution clearly states that the right to keep and bear arms “shall not be infringed.” Therefore any federal or state laws that attempt to limit this right are unconstitutional and must be repealed."
