Campaign themes

2016

Allegro's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • Protect Our Quality of Life – Our communities are besieged by LLC land developers who take advantage of weak laws to change municipal boundaries and overbuild. Kiryas Joel annexation, which I’ve fought to halt, is just the beginning. As your assemblyman, I’ll continue the fight against aggressive land grabs by making municipalities and the state more accountable to the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), and by increasing penalties for repeat violators.
  • Small Business Relief – All businesses should receive tax cuts instead of a few “winners” selected by the State. Start-Up NY is a failure. It cost us forty seven million dollars on advertisements while it created only four hundred jobs. Real growth can happen only after we eliminate conditions that make New York one of the most difficult states to start and stay in business.
  • East Ramapo Schools – Albany has yet to enact law that will grant the East Ramapo School District a fiscal monitor with real-time veto power. Our children’s education should not suffer at the hands of a gridlocked state legislature. I will work vigorously to ensure that the children of East Ramapo receive the education and programs to which they are entitled.
  • Unfunded Mandates – Our school systems and municipalities are plagued by State mandated programs that must be paid for on the local level. These programs divert funds from education and infrastructure. I will support the repeal of unfunded mandates to stop Albany from shifting the cost of programs to local entities.[1]
