Jose Guevara
Jose "Chema" Guevara was a candidate for District 4 of the Laredo City Council in Texas. He was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016.[1]
Guevara previously ran for city council in 2008. He won nine percent of the vote in the May 2008 election, placing fifth of five candidates competing for the seat.[2][3]
Biography
As of his run for city council in 2016, Guevara was the general manager of Laredo Moving and Storage Allied Van Lines.[2][4]
Guevara has served as the president of the J.Z. Leyendecker Elementary Parent Teacher Association, a national board member for the reparatory adoration group Noctural Adoration Society, and a member of Laredo's Third Party Funding Committee, the Laredo Fire Department Explorers Post 1890, and the Laredo Police Department Explorers Post 1899.[5][4]

On October 13, 2016, the Laredo Morning Times reported that, "Guevara's campaign platform focuses on key issues that affect District 4 residents: safety, sidewalks, neighborhood improvement, economic growth and infrastructure."[5]

No candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the general election, so the top two vote-getters, Allen Tijerina and Alberto Torres Jr., advanced to a runoff election on December 17, 2016. The following candidates ran in the Laredo City Council District 4 general election.[6]
