Campaign themes

2016

Chabot's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Unfunded Mandates

New York State was once the Empire State. Yes, there are a plethora of reasons New York is one of my favorite places to live, but businesses and residents are leaving at alarming rates. We want to keep talent and our residents here instead of them leaving for other opportunities throughout the Country. Yes, we need programs to protect people and secure them when all else fails, but when help becomes a crutch, the wound never heals. Too many people are abusing the system and there is little accountability. We need reform and updating of our legislation that handles unfunded mandates, common core, school district funding and our zoning laws.

Common Core

New York and the Nation is in need of Education reform. Too many students are unaware with current events, basic financial practices and important laws and legislation that impact their own personal lives. I believe a good education starts at home. Yes, we need curriculum reform, but I oppose common core and its standards ENTIRELY. Both Teachers, Students and parents need to work together to foster a healthy environment for learning.

East Ramapo School District

This is a school district that has not gotten better over time, but worse. There is no direction, vision or ways. At this point, putting more money into the system is disastrous and perpetuating the cycle of inequality. What has been done by politicians in the past in favor of supporting the East Rampo School District, is obtaining grants and sums of money to make it appear as if there is concern. However, this is nothing more than a political ploy. We don’t JUST have a funding issue, but a management issue.

Election Law Reform

If we want to clean up our elected officials, let’s clean up the process that elects them. Making changes to Section 5 Subsection 304 in the Election Law to reflect that change of party.[1]
