Villasenor is from South Whittier, Calif. She earned a bachelor's degree in business management with an emphasis in early childhood development. She started the Wrigley Community Watch and belongs to the Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance and the MacArthur Park Community Association.[1]

The city of Long Beach, California, held primary elections for city council on April 12, 2016. The general election was held on June 7, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was January 15, 2016. Four of the eight city council seats were up for election.[2] Incumbent Dee Andrews (Write-in) defeated Erik Miller, Robert Harmon, and Josephine Villasenor in the Long Beach City Council District 6 primary election.[3]
