Three seats on the Lakeville Area Public Schools Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014.

Incumbents Jim Skelly and Michelle Volk ran against challengers Jackie L. Craig, Kathy Lewis, Mark Priore, and Randy Pronschinske for the seats. Fellow board member Roz Peterson did not file for re-election.[1] Skelly, Volk, and Lewis won the open seats.

Lakeville Area Public Schools is located in Dakota County, Minnesota. The county seat is Hastings. Dakota County had a population of 408,509 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau in 2014.[2] In the 2011-2012 school year, Lakeville Area Public Schools was the 10th-largest school district in Minnesota and served 11,069 students.[3]

Demographics

In 2012, Dakota County had a higher percentage of residents with a bachelor's degree compared to the state overall. The United States Census Bureau reported that 38.4 percent of residents aged 25 and older in Dakota County had earned a bachelor's degree, compared with 32.2 percent for Minnesota. The county’s median household income was $73,288, above the state median of $59,126. The poverty rate in Dakota County was 6.4 percent, below the state rate of 11.2 percent.[2]

Voter and candidate information

As of the 2014 election, the Lakeville Board of Education consisted of six members elected at-large to four-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Three seats were up for election in 2014.[1]

School board candidates had to file with their county elections department during the candidate filing period. The filing period began on July 29, 2014, and ended on August 12, 2014. To vote in the 2014 general election, voters had to register by October 14, 2014.[5][6]

Endorsements

Jackie L. Craig received endorsements from Education Minnesota - Lakeville and Service Employees International Union Local 284.[7]
