Two of the seven seats on the Liberty Public Schools school board were up for general election on April 5, 2016. Incumbents D. Scott Connor and Andrew Roffmann were the only two candidates to file for the race. Due to this lack of opposition, the election was canceled.[1]

The Liberty Public Schools school board consists of seven members who are elected at large to staggered three-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on April 5, 2016. Two seats were up for general election. The general election will be canceled if the number of candidates equals the number of board vacancies. [2]
An individual must be a registered voter in order to vote in a school election. In order to vote, a person must be 18 years of age or older, must be a citizen of the United States, and must reside in the school district for 30 days. School board candidates must be at least 24 years of age, have lived in the state for one year, and cannot be a convicted felon.[2]

Liberty Public Schools is located in northwest Missouri in Clay County. The county seat of Clay County is Liberty, Missouri. Clay County was home to 233,682 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] Liberty Public Schools is located in Missouri. The district was the 17th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 11,821 students.[7]
Demographics
Clay County outperformed the rest of Missouri in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 30.6 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 26.2 percent of state residents. The median household income in the county was $60,936, compared to $47,380 for the state. The poverty rate in Clay County was 9.0 percent, compared to 15.5 percent for the entire state.[6]
