Nancy A. Walker is the Pennsylvania Secretary of Labor and Industry. Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) appointed Walker acting secretary of labor and industry on January 17, 2023, to replace Jennifer Berrier. [1]

Walker's appointment was confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Senate on June 21, 2023. [2]

Biography

Nancy A. Walker earned a B.A. and a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986 and 1992, respectively.[3] Walker's career experience includes owning Walker Law Offices and working as the chief deputy attorney general of the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Fair Labor Section.[1][2][3] She has served as a co-chair of the American Bar Association, on the boards of Holy Trinity Nursery Schools and the Labor Employment Relations Association, on the councils of the Exton United Methodist Church and the ACBA Young Lawyer’s Section, and on the board of directors of Light of Life Rescue Mission. Walker has also been affiliated with the Support Center for Child Advocates, the Delaware County Bar Association, the AFL-CIO Lawyers’ Coordinating Committee, and the Delaware County Trial Lawyers Association.[3]

Elections

2013 election

Walker ran for election to the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas.

Primary: She received 44.5 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary on May 21, 2013. She also cross-filed as a Republican, but lost that primary with 11.4% of the vote. 
General: She was defeated in the general election on November 5, 2013, after receiving 23.4 percent of the vote. Richard M. Cappelli, Steven Chanenson and William Chip Mackrides were also on the ballot, competing for two open seats.
