Robert W. Lovegreen was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. He was first appointed to this position on March 1, 1993, for an eight-year term which was renewed in 2001. He retired on September 1, 2004.[1][2]

Education

Judge Lovegreen is a 1960 graduate of Brown University, and a 1963 graduate of the University of Virginia Law School. He went on to serve a clerkship with the law firm of Higgins & Slattery in Providence, Rhode Island, from July 1, 1963, to December 31, 1963, and to pass the Rhode Island Bar Exam in 1963.[2]

Professional career

In 1985, Lovegreen was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts. From January 1964 to December 1964, he was a law clerk to associate justice William Powers of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. He was then an associate with the law firm of Higgins & Slattery in Providence from January 1965 to December 1966, subsequently serving as a partner with the law firm of Hinckley, Allen, Salisbury & Parsons from December 1966 to April 1985. He became a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in July 1983 and was a partner in the law firm of Gidley, Lovegreen & Sarli from May 1, 1985, to February 28, 1993.[2]

Lovegreen is a senior federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. He was first appointed to this position on March 1, 1993, for an eight-year term which was renewed in 2001. He retired on September 1, 2004, but continues to serve as a recalled magistrate judge.[2][3]
