Patricia A. Sullivan is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. She was appointed to this position on October 1, 2012. She was the first female magistrate judge to serve on the district court.[1][2]

Education

Sullivan earned her B.A. with honors in 1973 from Wellesley College and a J.D. from Georgetown University in 1978. While at Georgetown, Sullivan served as the articles editor for the Georgetown Law Review.[3][2]

Professional career

After leaving law school, Judge Sullivan joined Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP (formerly Edwards & Angell, LLP and Edwards Angell Palmer Dodge, LLP) where she was an attorney from 1978 to 2012. From 2011 to 2012, she also served as an adjunct faculty member at Roger Williams University School of Law.[3] Prior to her appointment to the federal bench, Sullivan was a partner and specialized in antitrust litigation.[2]

Judicial career

Sullivan was appointed as a federal magistrate judge on October 1, 2012, to replace Judge David L. Martin.[1] She was the first female magistrate judge in Rhode Island.[2] Sullivan was reappointed to a second term in 2020.[4]
