An effort to recall Judy McGooden and Phil Rodriguez from their positions on the Soquel Union Elementary School District Board of Trustees in California was first discussed in May 2015, but the campaign ended in July 2015 with the resignation of Rodriguez.[1] The possibility of recalling the board members was discussed following tense salary negotiations with the Soquel Education Association. On May 27, 2015, a survey was sent out to district voters to gauge the interest in a recall election.[2]
On June 17, 2015, district Superintendent Henry Castaniada announced he would resign from the position after the 2015-2016 school year. The announcement came as a tentative contract agreement was reached. Castaniada had received a vote of no confidence earlier in March 2015 from 96 percent of district teachers.[2]
