Campaign themes
2014
Powell's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Education: Investing in Education
- Excerpt: "Pennsylvania is in the midst of an education crisis. Under Governor Tom Corbett, 1 billion dollars has been cut from our schools. In order to provide for our children, invest in our future, and make sure that Pennsylvania is a leader in education, we must take steps to prevent further cuts and ensure that education is a priority."
The Economy & Jobs: Being a Leader in Job Growth and Empowering our Workers
- Excerpt: "With so many skilled individuals in our state and so many struggling to find a job, it is shameful that last year Pennsylvania fell from 7th to 47th in job growth. Opportunities for economic development abound in Pennsylvania and we must explore our options while maintaining the integrity of our workers."
Equality: Fighting for Equality
- Excerpt: "Fifty years ago we signed the Civil Rights Act, and we still fight for equality to this day. As a society that prides itself on our freedoms as individuals, we must extend those freedoms to all people regardless of their skin color or lifestyle. As your next State Representative I will take measures to ensure that Pennsylvania is on the right side of history."
The Environment
- Excerpt: "As your State Representative, I will: Support an immediate moratorium on fracking on all public lands."
