Vidal G. Martinez is Managing Partner of Martinez Partners LLP, and is a highly respected international lawyer, speaker, and author who began his career in 1978 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Houston with the U.S. Department of Justice. Since 1981, Vidal, who is of Mexican descent and fluent in Spanish, has been engaged in private practice handling primarily litigation, regulatory, and transactional matters. In 2001-2002, Vidal was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas, the governing body of all Texas lawyers. In 2008, he received the prestigious Reynaldo G. Garza Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Bar, which is given annually to just one individual “who has demonstrated a long commitment and made great achievement in addressing concerns and issues affecting the Spanish speaking community.” Vidal has also received the Five Outstanding Young Houstonians and the Five Outstanding Young Texans awards from the Houston and Texas Jaycees. He was appointed by former Texas Governor Bill Clements to the University of Houston Board of Regents and also served as Vice-Chairman.
  • Fixing the current crime wave:the majority of Americans at 75% say more police are needed on the streets amid concerns over a rise in violent crime nationwide. Defunding and demoralizing our law enforcement only encourages criminals and makes our communities less safe. Yet in June 2021, Hidalgo singularly decided to strip an estimated $20 million away from Harris County Constables. While these funds were supposed to be re-directed into other avenues of crime-fighting, the reality is that they were set aside for Judge Hidalgo and the Court to use as needed for any other budget shortfall or social program experiment.
  • Flooding remains a top concern:in August 2018, Harris County voters passed a $2.5 billion flood bond to help communities that needed it most, but under Hidalgo’s failed leadership, Commissioners Court has repeatedly tried to divert those funds to non-flooding related projects. It is illegal to use it for any other purpose than the approved projects that are tied to the funds. As County Judge, I would assure Harris County taxpayers that every dollar funded through the approved bond will be spent as promised. The passage of any bonds is a contract with the voters to spend those funds in exactly the manner they approved. I will honor those contracts.
  • Ousting corruption: the items Hidalgo and her Democrat colleagues have tried to push through Commissioners Court are unprecedented and sorely lack transparency and integrity. One of the first priorities for newly elected County Judge Lina Hidalgo was to push through an historic 8% property tax increase – the maximum property tax increase allowed. Democrats thought their 3-2 majority on the Court would make this an easy task and they would not need to get any approval from voters. Fortunately, Harris County residents were spared this illegal and burdensome increase by the other Republican Commissioners Steve Radack and Jack Cagle on the Court who broke quorum in order to protect ta
I previously served as Commissioner of the Port of Houston Authority and on the Board of Greater Houston Partnership, and I currently serve on the Board of the Houston Methodist Hospital System, the #1 ranked hospital in Texas. I will bring decades of valuable experience to inform decision-making when it comes to healthcare, infrastructure, transportation, and other county projects so that we can ensure Harris County remains prosperous. It’s time Harris County works for the people. It’s time we put people over politics and restore leadership and integrity to Harris County.

One of purpose and dedication to the residents of Harris County.
