A handful of special elections will take place in two states on Tuesday, December 1. A special election will be held in Georgia's State Senate District 20, as six Republican candidates battle for the seat left vacant following Ross Tolleson's (R) resignation on November 1, 2015.[1]
Two runoff elections will also take place in Georgia: one in State Senate District 43 and another in District 122 of the House of Representatives. In District 43, Janice Frey Van Ness (R) faces Tonya Anderson (D) since they were the top two vote-getters during the special election on November 3. The winner of the District 43 race will replace Ronald Ramsey (D) following his July 2015 resignation to become a traffic court judge.[2] Meanwhile, in District 122, Republicans Jodi Lott and Mack Taylor will square off one final time to determine who will fill the seat vacated by Ben Harbin (R).[3]
In Rhode Island, Democratic and Republican primary elections will be held for candidates hoping to fill the vacant seat in State Senate District 11. Three Democrats, three Republicans and one independent candidate are all vying for the seat previously held by Christopher Ottiano (R).[4]
