Allen ran in the 2012 election for New Mexico State Senate District 35. He ran unopposed in the Republican primary on June 5, 2012. Incumbent John Arthur Smith (D) defeated Larry P. Martinez in the Democratic primary. He was defeated by Smith in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
