Marion County Public Schools is a school district in Florida. The district was the 17th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 42,107 students.[1]

Marion County Public Schools serves the county of the same name in north-central Florida. The city of Ocala is the county seat. The county was home to an estimated 343,254 residents between 2010 and 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2]
Demographics
Marion County underperformed compared to Florida as a whole in terms of higher education attainment from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 17.2 percent of county residents aged 25 and older had attained a bachelor's degree or higher, compared to 26.8 percent statewide. The median household income for the county was $39,339 compared to $47,212 for the state. County residents lived below poverty level at a rate of 17.8 percent, while that rate was 16.5 percent for state residents.[2]

Members of the Marion County Public Schools Board of Education are elected to four-year terms. Three seats were up for election in 2014, and two seats were up for election in 2016. Three seats were up for election in 2018.

From 1993 to 2013, the Marion County school district had an average of $304,600,238 in revenue and $307,128,143 in expenditures, according to the United States Census Bureau's survey of school system finances. The district had a yearly average of $113,257,000 in outstanding debt. The district retired $8,580,619 of its debt and issued $12,352,619 in new debt each year on average.[4]
