Ron Sparks (b. 1954) was the Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries from 2003-2011. On April 3, 2009, Sparks, a Democrat, announced his candidacy for Governor of Alabama in 2010.[1]

Sparks has previously worked as Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, State President of Alabama 911, and Director of a 911 System. He served in the United States Coast Guard, Honor Guard, Search and Rescue.

Sparks is a coach with DeKalb County Youth Athletics, Vice-President of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, and President of the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture. He is a graduate of Northeast State Community College.[2]

Sparks faced Artur Davis in the June 1 primary, defeating him by a margin of 62.31% to 36.69%.

Sparks lost to Republican Robert J. Bentley in the general election on November 2, 2010.[3]
