- Some race trackers listed this as a pick-up for the Republicans because outgoing Governor Charlie Crist left the GOP and became an independent for the sake of his U.S. Senate campaign. However, as Crist was elected as a Republican and served almost all of his term with the party, we consider the Florida governorship not to have switched parties.
