David Forsyth (Connecticut)
David Forsyth was a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 116 of the Connecticut House of Representatives.
Forsyth filed a complaint against election officials in early July in order to stay on the ballot after he was given the wrong forms to file.[1] On July 9, 2012 Hartford Superior Court Judge Edward S. Domnarski ruled that Secretary of State Denise Merrill must accept primary petitions from Forsyth.[2]
A recount was conducted for District 116 in West Haven and part of New Haven after the count on primary night showed Democratic incumbent Louis Esposito receiving 548 votes while Forsyth received 537, a margin of 11 votes.[3] The recount found Esposito had indeed won the race.[4]

Forsyth ran in the 2012 election for Connecticut House of Representatives District 116. Forsyth faces incumbent Louis Esposito in the Democratic primary on August 14. No candidates filed to run in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[5]
Forsyth filed a complaint against Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, West Haven Democratic Registrar of Voters Michelle Hufcut and New Haven Democratic Registrar of Voters Sharon Ferrucci in Hartford Superior Court in early July in order to stay on the ballot.[1] The suit stems from a matter concerning petition paperwork, after West Haven Democratic Registrar of Voters Michelle Hufcut gave Forsyth paperwork to file from her office when Forsyth should have used petition paperwork from the secretary of the state’s office.[1] Documents from the state are required because the 116th District now includes parts of West Haven and New Haven. Before the state redistricted, the 116th District included only West Haven, and petition papers from the city’s registrar of voters office would have been acceptable.[1] Foryth submitted 322 signatures, which exceeded the 308 signatures required to appear on the ballot.[1] On July 9, 2012 Hartford Superior Court Judge Edward S. Domnarski ruled that Secretary of the State Denise Merrill must accept primary petitions from Forsyth.[6]
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill notified the Registrars of Voters and Town Clerks in New Haven, West Haven, Hartford and Windsor on August 16, 2012 they had until August 21, 2012 to conduct recounts after close votes in primaries in their municipalities on Tuesday August 14th.[3] The recounts were conducted for District 116 in West Haven and part of New Haven after the count on primary night showed Democratic incumbent Louis Esposito receiving 548 votes while Forsyth received 537, a margin of 11 votes.[3]
