Deb Mell was a member of the Chicago City Council in Illinois, representing Ward 33. Mell assumed office in 2013. Mell left office on May 20, 2019.

Mell ran for re-election to the Chicago City Council to represent Ward 33 in Illinois. Mell lost in the general runoff election on April 2, 2019.

Before becoming a member of the city council, Mell was a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing District 40 from 2008-2013.

At the time of her appointment, Mell was the first openly lesbian city council member in Chicago's history. She replaced her father on the council.[1]

The city of Chicago, Illinois, held elections for city council on February 24, 2015. A runoff will take place in Ward 33 on April 7, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was November 24, 2014.[2] In the general election for Ward 33, incumbent Deb Mell and Tim Meegan advanced past Annisa Wanat.[3] Mell and Meegan faced each other in a runoff election on April 7, 2015. Tyler Solorio was removed from the ballot.[4]

Mell won re-election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 40. Mell ran unopposed in the March 20 Democratic primary and defeated Antoinette Puccio-Johnson (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[5][6][7]

Mell won re-election to the 40th District seat unopposed. She defeated Joe Laiacona in the Democratic primary on February 2nd by a margin of 4,327 to 2,236. The general election took place on November 2, 2010. [8]

On November 4, 2008, Democrat Deb Mell won re-election to the Illinois House of Representatives District 40 receiving 16,932 votes, ahead of Republican Christine Nere-Foss (3,399 votes), and Heather Benno (Green) who received 2,276 votes.[9]
