Poor high school graduation rate Lack of affordable housing PERS $25 Billion unfunded liability

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am personally passionate about the excessive spending and high taxes.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

President Donald Trump. He loves this country and is willing to make the hard decisions and do the right things to make America Great Again! If I am elected, I am willing to do the hard work it will take to tackle the problems of Oregon.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

I would recommend listening to the Rush Limbaugh talk radio show. He is my hero. I have listened to him for 30 years and he is always consistent in his beliefs and is spot on in evaluating current events.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Defending the principles that this country was founded upon. Protecting our rights and freedoms as they were given to us in the Bill of Rights. Give every life and every Oregon family a chance to succeed. Responsibly manage our state's blessings, such as our finances and natural resources. Support Law enforcement to make our state safer for our citizens.

I would like to be an example of what can be accomplished if we act with courage and be willing to do hard things.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

I remember the campaign of Harry Truman and Dewey. Most of the kids in my class, I think the second grade, wanted Truman to win. After listening to what they stood for, I wanted Dewey.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

When I was in high school, I worked part-time for a public accountant. I had the responsibility of entering income and expenses for 13 small businesses and balancing their bank statements. During tax season, I typed the tax forms from a yellow pad of information that the accountant had received from the client. I also worked for him for about a year after I was married. I also worked for the telephone company as an operator for about 4 years.

What happened on your most awkward date?

I asked my date if he was going to marry me. He about pushed me out of the car as this was our first time together. Two days later he asked me where I wanted to be married and we were married 6 weeks later. We have been married 59 years and have 6 children, 31 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
