Douglas M. Fasciale is a judge of the New Jersey Supreme Court. He assumed office on October 21, 2022. His current term ends on October 21, 2029.
Fasciale was appointed to the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division in June 2010 and sworn in on August 1, 2010.[1] Chief Justice Stuart Rabner appointed him to the New Jersey Supreme Court on a temporary basis on August 15, 2022.[2] Fasciale was appointed to the Supreme Court on a permanent basis by Gov. Biography
Fasciale received his undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University and his J.D. from Seton Hall Law School.[1]
Fasciale is the former presiding judge of the civil division of the New Jersey Vicinage 12. He began serving on that court in 2004 after being appointed by Gov. Jim McGreevey.[1]

Chief Justice Stuart Rabner appointed Fasciale to the New Jersey Supreme Court on a temporary basis on August 15, 2022.[2] Fasciale was appointed to the Supreme Court on a permanent basis by Gov. Phil Murphy (D) on September 14, 2022, and was confirmed on October 17, 2022.[3]
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) appointed Douglas M. Fasciale to the New Jersey Supreme Court on September 14, 2022. He was confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate on October 18, 2022.[4] Fasciale succeeded Faustino J. Fernandez-Vina, who retired on February 15, 2022, upon reaching the state's mandatory retirement age of 70 years old.[5] Fasciale was Gov. Murphy's third nominee to the seven member court.[6]

Fasciale was appointed to the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division in June 2010 and sworn in on August 1, 2010.[1]

Gov. Jim McGreevey appointed Fasciale to the civil division of the New Jersey Vicinage 12 in 2004.[1]

The seven justices of the New Jersey Supreme Court are selected by gubernatorial appointment. The governor's nominee must be confirmed by the New Jersey state Senate.[7][8]
Justices serve an initial term of seven years after appointment. If renominated by the governor and confirmed for reappointment by the Senate, they may serve on the court until they reach the mandatory retirement age of 70.[7][8]
Qualifications
To be eligible to serve on the supreme court, a person must have been admitted to practice law in New Jersey for at least 10 years.[8]

The chief justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court is selected by gubernatorial appointment. The position of chief justice is a specific seat on the court rather than a temporary leadership position.[8]
