Atchison was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 46 of the West Virginia House of Delegates. He advanced past the Republican primary, but was defeated in the general election.[2]

James Atchison defeated Derek Long was unopposed in the Republican primary. Smith defeated Atchison in the general election.[2][7]
