Candidate Connection

Jess Mallett completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Mallett's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Improving our public education, strengthening the middle class, and reducing crimes in our neighborhoods and stopping the corruption in our current political system.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Public education is a corner stone to society. The states with the best public education have the strongest economy and best standard of living. Arkansas's students are just as smart and as talented as anywhere else, but we do not give teachers the respect the deserve or the tools they need to teach. I want to change that. I believe we can start to solve most problems in our state by improving the quality of our education.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty, integrity, work ethic, and a passion to serve.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I am an attorney so I understand the law and how laws work together. I am a hard worker that cares about people. I am willing to listen and work for my constituents, not just my political party.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The most basic responsibility is to be a representative for your constituents. It is a privilege to represent them, and their interest should be placed above everything else.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I hope to leave a legacy of making Arkansas's schools some of the best in the country.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Bill Clinton being elected President. I was six.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

High Hopes by Panic! at the Disco

If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

Education Committee

Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

Dale Bumpers
