Kevin Scott Poe was a 2012 Republican candidate for District 51 of the West Virginia House of Delegates. Poe previously ran for election to House District 44 in 2010.

Poe's professional experience includes working as a main propulsion system engineer. He earned his B.S. in aerospace engineering from West Virginia University in 1990.

  • Excerpt: "In WV, taxes are too high. The best person to decide how to spend their money is not the government, but the private individual. A person will wait for a jacket to come on sale before he buys it. The store owner takes that money and invest in the store with more merchandise and pays his employees. Those employees buy groceries and support their families. Every time that money changes hands, it is producing wealth where there was none before. A government does not have to wait for the jacket to go on sale, it buys it at full price and passes the cost onto the citizens of WV."

Private Property

  • Excerpt: "The state, under current eminent domain laws, can take the property that you worked hard and paid for or what may have been in your family for generations, and take it. Confiscate it. I will allow that for public uses such as schools, highways and other infrastructure, eminent domain laws have a place. But private property must never be taken by the force of government and given to another private individual or group, no matter how noble the reason. "

  • Excerpt: "People have a right to own firearms. It is that simple. "

Jobs

  • Excerpt: "WV is not a free market economy. For too long, the state government has controlled economic growth and dictated what businesses move into the state. In Monongalia County, we have been very lucky to be largely left alone to develop on our own as a local economy. Our good job numbers and growth are proof of that. But in other parts of the state, this is not true. WV should not only be a business friendly, but also a market friendly state. The rest of the nation is hurting economically. We have a choice. We can either have business as usual with little or no state economic growth, or take advantage of this opportunity and capture long term economic success. "

Poe ran in the 2012 election for West Virginia House of Delegates, District 51. Poe advanced past the May 8 primary election and was defeated in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4]

Poe was defeated in the general election for District 44. He was defeated by Republican Amanda Pasdon, Democratic incumbents Barbara Fleischauer and Charlene Marshall, and Democrat Anthony P. "Tony" Barill. Poe was one of ten candidates running for the four positions in District 44 on the ballot in the November 2, 2010 general election. Only the top four vote-getters were elected. He defeated Republican James Elvwas austin in the May 11 primary.[5][6]
