Four of the nine seats on the Newburgh Enlarged City School District school board were up for general election on May 17, 2016. Incumbents Susan Prokosch and Andrew Johnston, along with newcomer Domenic Tebano, won the three seats with a three-year term. Incumbent Darren Stridiron won the seat with a one-year term. Challengers Anthony Hood, Mark Levinstein, Sylvia Santiago, and Lissandra Deliz were defeated in the race for the four seats up for election.[1]

The Newburgh Enlarged Board of Education consists of nine members elected at-large to three-year terms. Voters could vote for all seats up for election. The top three vote-getters won a seat with a three-year term, while the candidate with the fourth-most votes won a seat with a one-year term.[2][3] There was no primary election, and the general election was held on May 17, 2016.[4]
To get on the ballot, school board candidates had to file their nominating petitions with the district clerk by April 27, 2016.[4]

The district was the ninth-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 11,495 students.[8]
