Campaign themes
2016
Nuxoll's website highlighted the following issues:[1]}}
U.S. Constitution/10th Amendment
- Excerpt: "Our Founders believed in the limited role of government via a system of checks and balances to protect our rights to life, liberty, property, and happiness from a tyrannical government. To this end, I will uphold the 10th amendment and state sovereignty."
Taxes
- Excerpt: "Business growth creates a broader tax revenue base, increasing income without raising taxes, which then allows taxes to be prudently reduced. Besides a balanced budget, I believe in zero-based budgeting for each program and agency: only if there is adequate revenue is a penny spent; furthermore, every penny spent must be justified and necessary."
Jobs/Economy
- Excerpt: "Allowing the private sector to stimulate the economy by eliminating governmental expansion and overregulation will bring in revenue."
Gun rights
- Excerpt: "The 2nd amendment is a constitutional right to defend ourselves against a tyrannical government. I am a National Rifle Association member and have a concealed weapons permit."
Religious freedom
- Excerpt: "The present administration is seeking to take this right away by promoting freedom to "worship", which restricts religion to one's home and church. This intolerance is evident in Obamacare and the HHS Mandate, part of the state health exchange, which I commit to repeal. Also, businesses should have the right to hire according to their religious beliefs."
Pro-life
- Excerpt: "Every person has innate human dignity which must be respected at all times. Foremost is the right to life from conception to natural death."
Education
- Excerpt: "Parents should have the choice to determine how their children should be educated. Family and schools are meant to work together for the sake of our children and a healthy nation. The constitution requires that states provide a thorough education for children, obliging school districts to implement local control. I will work to ensure that no unfunded state mandates are imposed on local districts as well as refusing federal involvement in our local education."
Marriage
- Excerpt: "Marriage is the natural union between one man and one woman. Every person deserves respect and has a right to live as they choose as long as they don't disrupt the common good, but no human has the right to redefine marriage or morality."
Health insurance
- Excerpt: "The health insurance system needs revamping. Costs need to come down. I support private health insurance: health savings accounts and personal savings accounts with high deductibles to provide for flexibility in health care decisions; reducing regulations to foster competition; letting the consumer pay the provider instead of providers competing for the business of bureaucracies; direct primary care that provides a flat fee for physician services."
Immigration
- Excerpt: "I welcome legal immigrants who contribute to our nation, seek the road to citizenship, and learn English to enter the work force. Immigrants must be treated with dignity and equality as brothers and sisters. Immigration laws should be humane and feasible, and then enforced. Illegal immigrants who seek naturalization and respect our country should follow the legal naturalization process, while those who hold our country in contempt should be humanely deported."
Water rights
- Excerpt: "Water is a precious resource that belongs to our state, not the federal government. I support an ecology that demands wise use of water."
Wolves
- Excerpt: "The Canadian wolf is not native to the Northwest and has wreaked untold havoc on livestock, sport, safety, and tourist industry. I support all efforts to eliminate them."
2014
Nuxoll's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]
US Constitution/10th Amendment
- Excerpt: "I believe, like our Founders, that higher government should intervene only if local government cannot solve the issue. To solve this current dilemma, our state must incrementally decrease the money received from the federal government."
Taxes
- Excerpt: "Besides a balanced budget, I believe in zero-based budgeting for each program and agency: only if there is adequate revenue is a penny spent; furthermore, every penny spent must be justified and necessary."
Jobs/Economy
- Excerpt: "I will support efforts to stimulate real economic recovery, especially by supporting efforts that the Federal government honor its contract with our state by transferring our state lands back to us."
Gun Rights
- Excerpt: "Every law-abiding citizen has the right to bear arms for protection, recreation, or sport. The 2nd amendment is a constitutional right to defend ourselves against a tyrannical government."

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Idaho Freedom Index
The Idaho Freedom Foundation, a conservative nonprofit organization, released its "Idaho Freedom Index" in 2013. The index was designed to show how Idaho legislators voted on the principles the foundation seeks to promote. It measured each state legislator based on how they voted on economic issues and on bills that created or eliminated government agencies, programs, and regulations. A higher score indicated that the legislator voted more in favor of the values supported by the organization.[18] Nuxoll received a score of 131 points in the 2013 index, ranking 4th out of 35 members of the Idaho State Senate that were evaluated for the study.
