The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 11, 2014. Jason Dunnington and Paula Sophia advanced past John Gibbons and Mark Faulk in the Democratic primary. Dunnington defeated Sophia in a runoff election on August 26, 2014, leaving him unchallenged in the general election.[2][3][4]
