Campaign themes

2016

Gillespie's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Ensuring All Students Have an Opportunity to Succeed

We need to ensure every student has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. We can no longer underfund our school districts. A highly skilled and educated workforce are the keys to success for our state. We need to ensure higher education is an affordable option for all of our children.

Economic Opportunity for All Minnesotans

"We all do better, when we all do better." - late Senator Paul Wellstone, 1999

We must work to eliminate economic, health and educational disparities. We need to continue to strengthen our middle class, focus on eliminating poverty, promoting small business creation and increasing job opportunities.

Fair Tax Structure

We need to create a tax structure that will be fair to every Minnesotan. We need to ensure a regressive tax system is not weighing heavily on our middle class.

Protecting the Rights of All Citizens

We need to dedicate ourselves to protecting the human rights, civil rights and voting rights of all Minnesotans. We need to create common sense policies to reduce domestic violence and gun violence. Acting as our brother's and sister's keeper should be a priority.

Practice Environmental Stewardship

We must promote policies that protect and preserve the environment for future generations.[2]
