In 2009, there were three races for three state supreme courts, in Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Louisiana
A vacancy on the Louisiana Supreme Court was created with the 2009 retirement of Justice Chet Traylor. 4th District Judge Marcus Clark defeated former executive counsel to Governor Bobby Jindal, Jimmy Faircloth on October 17, 2009. [1][2]

Pennsylvania
