Hammond ran in the 2012 election for New York State Assembly District 107. He was defeated by Cheryl A. Roberts in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2012. Incumbent Steven F. McLaughlin ran unopposed in the Republican primary; he also ran on the Conservative Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. Roberts and Brenda J. Mahar ran in the Working Families Party primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2][3]
