Amy Reynolds Hay was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh Division). She was appointed to this position in 2003.[1] On October 14, 2010, Judge Hay passed away.[2]

Biography and Education

Judge Hay was born in 1949 and grew up in Somerset, Pennsylvania. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971 and her J.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1982.

Career

Judge Hay began her career in 1982 as an Assistant Public Defender for Allegheny County. Later that year, she became a trial attorney in the Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. In 1984, she joined the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania. She worked as trial staff for this office until 1989, when she became the Chief of the Civil Division. She worked in this capacity until her judicial appointment. In addition to this judgeship, she also works as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.[1]
