Campaign themes
2016
Fuller's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Infrastructure
- Excerpt: "Michigan's road network has been neglected for decades. The recent road funding bill adopted by the legislature does not adequately address the needs despite the fact that they have been thoroughly documented. The crumbling roads discourage commerce and cost the average driver more than $350 a year in repairs."
Education
- Excerpt: "All Michigan children deserve access to a world class public education that is not determined by where they live or how much money their parents earn. For this reason, I have serious concerns about the splintering and diversion of public education funding. Publicly funded charter schools have not delivered on their promise for better educational outcomes. Higher education funding is drawing down the K-12 appropriations. The recent proposal to pay private schools to meet their reporting obligations to the state is yet another thinly veiled attempt to subsidize private education at taxpayers' expense."
Local control
- Excerpt: "Restoring and expanding local control is essential to the vitality of Michigan's communities. Local governments must be allowed to adopt ordinances to protect the character, safety and environmental integrity of their surroundings. Local funding options should be available to allow communities to move decisively when state dollars are inadequate to fund vital responsibilities such as infrastructure and education."
Equal pay for equal work
- Excerpt: "I believe government has a role to play in achieving equal pay for equal work and closing the paycheck gap between men and women. This inequity results in an estimated loss of earnings over a woman's working lifetime that ranges from $700,000 for a high school graduate to $2 million for a professional school graduate. This disparity robs households and families of millions of dollars of income that ends up in the pockets of upper management rather than in the pocketbooks of working middle-class Americans."
