Candidate Connection

Daniel Manuel participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on February 28, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Daniel Manuel's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Public Education Funding (including classroom resources and crucial update to curriculum), Teacher Salaries (including benefits, pension, etc.)

2) Pro-Life: (Affordable access to contraceptives, healthcare, family assistance, social security, adoption, services to disabled, women's and men's health, and protecting the unborn)
3) Religious Freedom: The gov't should protect the constitutional right of ALL people to follow whichever religion they wish. I am a Christian and I follow the teachings of Jesus, but I know and understand that I cannot use my power as a lawmaker, if granted to me, to force my religious views and convictions on other people. Separation of church from state is critical and I will fight tirelessly to ensure that it remains in tact.[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

CONSTITUENT CONTACT I understand how important it is to be readily available both at home and at the State Capitol. As a firefighter, I and my fellow firefighters have been responding to emergencies as they happen effectively and efficiently. That being said, I am committed to being readily available to constituents once elected and on the campaign trail. One of the reasons that the Oklahoma State Legislature has been ineffective at meeting the needs of the citizens is because of the lack of integration within the parties. I understand the importance of working across the aisle with all other members of the legislature, for the good of all constituents. Closed door politics is not the way that the government should operate, and I am willing and ready to see that changed. GUN RIGHTS AND CONTROL I’m a definite supporter of the 2nd Amendment. I will fight to protect the rights of responsible law abiding citizens to own firearms for self-defense and for recreation. My children have been taught responsible firearm handling and safe shooting practices at home; but I am in favor of increased gun safety education opportunities for our citizens that don't have such resources available.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]
