Agriculture
- John believes the economic well-being of rural communities depends on small businesses and family farms, and will protect the interests of both farmers and consumers.
- John supports a range of post-secondary agricultural education programs in colleges and universities.
Bipartisanship
- John has worked with people of all political backgrounds, and has gotten work done. He will listen to the concerns of everyone, not just his party.
Economy
During the 2013-2014 session, the legislature, controlled by the DFL, balanced the state budget--while also cutting income and property taxes for middle class families.
- John will continue to support the policies that have allowed Minnesota to rank fifth in job creation nationwide (Gallup Job Creation Index).
- John has been working with taxes for his clients for 50 years. He understands which taxes spur economic growth and which taxes hinder it.
Education is an investment into our society that empowers future generations and spurs economic growth.
John stands for:
- full funding of public education on all levels, including special education and early childhood education.
- high quality, well-funded, and affordable post-secondary education.
Energy
- John believes in clean and economical energy sources. He won’t hinder the progress of private firms seeking to provide renewable energy.
Infrastructure
- John supports giving the needed resources to local governments to efficiently and effectively maintain their infrastructure.
- John will fight for transportation funding in order to help Minnesota retain and attract a talented workforce, create jobs, and keep Minnesota economically competitive.
Second Amendment
- John is a gun owner, and supports the current gun registrations laws. He wants to make sure guns stay within their owners' hands.
- John also supports the current permit to carry laws.
Technology
- John strongly believes in the first amendment. He will support legislation to protect net neutrality--the idea that all information on the internet is equal ("neutral") and should not be tampered with by any organization.
- John will fight to give schools the funding necessary to use technology in the classroom to give Minnesota's students the skills they need to compete in the modern workforce.[2][3]

Elections for the Minnesota House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election was held on August 12, 2014, and a general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. John Lipke was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Glenn Gruenhagen was unopposed in the Republican primary. Gruenhagen defeated Lipke in the general election.[4][5][6]
