What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
Reviving our economy so all families can thrive in Connecticut Protecting choice for women Advancing additional legislation aimed at protecting our communities from gun violence
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am a believer in an open and accountable government. It's very difficult for people to often find out how their representatives have voted. There could be a lot of improvement in this area. It's important to look not just at what our representatives are saying, but what they're doing.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
I look up to everyday people who've found their way to the U.S., who've worked hard and become part of our fabric. In towns and cities across our state, there are folks struggling to balance work (or worse having to find work), struggling to keep up with their bills, struggling to afford healthcare and struggling to get by with less. Every new job opportunity, every raise, every small victory they achieve is important. My father was an immigrant. This is our family story.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
I think people want to know that their elected officials are committed to their needs. People want to know you're listening and that you'll fight for them.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I'm an extremely hard worker. Anyone who's ever worked with me knows, I'll walk the walk. I'll come in early, I'll stay late. I'll put in the time. There will be late nights, there will be conflict. You just have to be strong in your commitment and do what's best for your district.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To carry on the people's business in Hartford. We are elected to advance legislation and policy that meets the needs our citizens.
What legacy would you like to leave?
One that includes fairness and advocacy for those without a voice.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
I remember being in my elementary school cafeteria when the space shuttle Challenger exploded. I remember how deeply sad I was at losing these amazing people who had so much courage. I was 10 years old at the time.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was a summer job. I worked in the office at my local swimming pool. It was only for a couple of months, but I enjoyed the interactions I had with people who came in. I'm a pretty friendly person. I'll talk to just about anyone.
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
My favorites are the people in my home. My husband and four children, they are my heart and soul.
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Connecticut has serious fiscal challenges. I believe our state can meet the needs of our people and be fiscally viable. We can adopt policies that benefit all stakeholders.
Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?
No.
