Matt and his wife of 20 years, Heidi, have two sons, Owen (18) and Alex (16). We have lived in Grimes since 2006 where we have made certain our boys know family and faith are the priorities.

Together, we have been faithful and active members of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes for 15 years. I lead children's music and VBS, assists at worship, and I have served on church committees.

In addition to my involvement in our church, I am active in the community, leading a running camp for kids and serving as announcer and emcee for school events.

I've been working in education for nearly 30 years. Since 2006, I have served as an English teacher and Literacy Interventionist at Waukee High School where I also advise a service group. I have been a girls track and field coach in the Waukee District for 15 years, and have served as head boys cross country coach at DCG for nine years.

I love the opportunity to serve as a teacher and coach in the Waukee School District and to serve as a coach in the DCG School District.

I believe serving others is something to which we are all called and I am excited about answering the call to run for State Senate.
  • Love your people; treat each other with kindness and respect.
  • Let's work to make Iowa a happier, healthier state for all.
  • Help Iowans live into what our welcome sign says: "Iowa welcomes you."
Public education -- because it has such a significant impact on so much else in our state, including economic development, our population, and our quality of life.
