I am an executive at a major international technology company who works in the world of Esports. I have more than 15 years of experience in high-level management positions, and have spent the last 11 years in executive leadership roles. But more than that, I am a resident of Meridian, Idaho, with a desire to see it represented by someone who really cares. I have seen the power of community in action through my work in Esports, and it inspired me to serve the community in which I live and work in a deep, meaningful way.
  • Transportation and Traffic: Roads in Meridian and across the state of Idaho are becoming increasingly difficult to travel due to the increase in population and lack of investment in maintenance and planning. We need a representative who wants to prepare for the future and focus on improving transportation in a way that will allow people to spend more time at home instead of stuck in traffic.
  • Education: Idaho is ranked 51st in the nation when it comes to spending per student, according to the U.S. Census. Our state also has the lowest average weekly wages in the country. We can do more for our students to ensure they receive an excellent primary education and the necessary post-secondary education to obtain high-quality jobs and remain in Idaho. I am committed to achieving this goal and investing in our children, our teachers, and our future.
  • Health Care: The COVID-19 pandemic showed exactly why we need broader health care coverage and options for Americans, including every citizen in Idaho. Millions of Americans were laid off during the pandemic and lost their health insurance as a result. We need better access to affordable health care for every Idahoan, which includes the expansion of Medicaid and health care plans with affordable premiums and deductibles. In 2018, the people of Idaho and District 20 voted overwhelmingly to improve health care options for the state by expanding Medicaid. District 20 needs new representation who will listen to constituents and pass a clean Medicaid expansion bill so Idahoans receive the care they need.
As I have outlined in my key messages, I am most passionate about the areas of public policy that directly affect people's everyday lives. Everyone deals with transportation issues in some way, everyone is affected by an educated or uneducated populace, and everyone is certainly affected by health care issues at some point in their lives. These are the areas where government can improve the lives of its citizens with the right policies, or it can make them worse with neglect, as the case is right now. We have spent too long waiting for leadership to improve our transportation system, schools and health care system. It is time for change.
When I talk to people while knocking doors in the Meridian and Boise areas of District 20, I find that even the people who say they have never voted for a Democrat in their lives can find something on which we agree. But you don't find those people and connect with them by not reaching out to them. When I have knocked on the doors of residents who have lived in the same home for more than 30 years and discover they have never had a local official come to their home before, I am shocked. The most important characteristic of an elected official is the ability to not just listen, but truly hear someone and try to help them. If that ability is backed by integrity and a passion for service, then you have someone who is well-equipped to serve the community and make a difference in people's lives.
While there are benefits to having experience in any job, when it comes to public service, what is most important is how connected a candidate is to their community and the people they represent. I have experience as a Meridian resident and Idaho citizen - that is why I have been knocking on doors nonstop, learning about my neighbors and what is impacting their lives the most. Experience in government and politics won't teach someone empathy and listening skills. The details of executing the job, however, can be learned.
