Sheila Kihne
Sheila Kihne was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 48B of the Minnesota House of Representatives.[1]
Campaign themes
2014
Kihne's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]
Restore Fiscal Discipline to the State Budget
- Excerpt: "We must have Republicans in office who are willing to take the heat and cut spending and reduce the size of government."
A Strong Economy Yields Job Creation
- Excerpt: "Three of the top five employers in Minnesota are government. A fourth, the Mayo Clinic, is subsidized by the government. We must make it easier to allow businesses to sprout and grow in Minnesota."
Strengthen Our Schools
- Excerpt: "We have too much administrative overhead, which is often-times driven by lawmakers adding programs and mandates -- like the recently passed bullying bill. The locally-elected school board should have the power to create a local school system that works for the community free from federal and state mandates. I oppose federal mandates like No Child Left Behind and federal curriculum like Common Core."
- Excerpt: "I also support more school choice which includes charter schools, homeschooling, trade schools, and private schools. If we can empower parents to place their children in the schools that serve their children best, all will be happier with the system and Minnesota can once again be a leader and innovator in education."
Right To Work
- Excerpt: "I support legislation to allow employees the right to decide whether or not to join a union or pay union dues."
Transportation that serves the public ... not central planners
- Excerpt: "We need to immediately prioritize road construction, especially adding lanes on 494."
Marriage Amendment
- Excerpt: "The vote to redefine marriage was a bad one. The law removes the words "mother and father" and "husband and wife" from Minnesota law and makes the institution genderless."
- Excerpt: "We must respect each other and allow others to live their lives freely. That is the promise of America. But it is not right to compel those of us who hold the traditional definition of marriage to act against our religious beliefs."
Right to Life
- Excerpt: "I believe that the greatest social justice crime has been the killing of 57 million babies in America. As a society we should always defend the weakest among us and as a culture we should value every life. In Minnesota, I'd like to see 20-week abortion bans."
