Campaign themes

2010

Larson's website highlighted the following campaign themes:

  • Economy
Excerpt: "It is time that the Legislature unleashed the power of small business by lowering taxes and reducing regulations so the natural forces of the American economy can take over and lead the recovery."
  • Education
Excerpt: "One of the most important roles of state government is to provide the funding for our children’s education. We must make sure that money goes to the classroom first and is not wasted on education bureaucracy."
  • Ethics Reform/Corruption
Excerpt: "I will be an active part of the new leadership that puts an end to “pay to play” politics and makes decisions based on what is best for the people, not the biggest campaign contributor."
  • Healthcare
Excerpt: I believe medical decisions are best made by those directly involved and I will support the State Republican leadership’s call for legislation to block federally mandated health care and make sure that medical decisions are made by the patient and their doctor; not the government or insurance companies."

No-New-Taxes Pledge

Nine of North Carolina’s 45 incoming freshman state legislators signed a pledge to "oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes." The pledge was in line with each of their campaign promises to fix the state’s fiscal hole without resorting to tax hikes. At the time they signed the pledge, North Carolina was looking at a budget deficit as high as $4 billion in 2011.

Larson signed the pledge in November 2010.[4]
