Stephanie Rose is the chief judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. She joined the court in 2012 after being nominated by Barack Obama (D). She became chief judge in March 2022. Before joining the court, Rose was the United States attorney for the Northern District of Iowa.[1][2]

Early life and education

Rose earned a B.A. from University of Iowa in 1994 and went on to earn a J.D. at the same school in 1996.[3]

On February 3, 2012, President Barack Obama (D) nominated Stephanie Rose to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa to fill the vacancy left by Judge Pratt's retirement.[1]

Rose was rated Unanimously Well Qualified by the American Bar Association. She had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 14, 2012, and you can find her Committee Questionnaire available here and her Questions for the Record available here.

On September 10, 2012, Stephanie Rose was confirmed to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa after a vote of 89-1.[4] She received commission on September 17, 2012. Rose became chief judge of the court in March 2022.[2]
