Kathleen Marie Sweet

Kathleen Marie Sweet is a partner with the law firm of Gibson, McAskill, & Crosby, LLP, in Buffalo, New York. She has been a partner with the firm since 1998. On March 15, 2016, President Barack Obama nominated her to a judicial position on the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. Hearings on Sweet's nomination were held before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary for June 21, 2016.[1][2] On January 3, 2017, Sweet's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[3]

Sweet earned her B.A. from Boston College in 1987 and her J.D. from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law in 1990.

President Obama nominated Sweet to the United States District Court for the Western District of New York on March 15, 2016, to serve as an Article III federal judge. Obama stated, regarding Sweet and five other nominees, "Throughout their careers, these nominees have displayed unwavering commitment to justice and integrity ... Their records are distinguished and impressive, and I am confident that they will serve the American people well from the United States District Court bench. I am honored to nominate them today."

The American Bar Association rated Sweet Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination.[4]

Hearings on Sweet's nomination before the Senate Judiciary Committee were held on June 21, 2016, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on September 8, 2016.[2] On January 3, 2017, Sweet's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[3]
