Wisniewski criticized for running as Republican
Wisniewski drew criticism from the local GOP for running as a Republican.[2] His nomination papers were delivered by Jason Sidener, a political action representative for the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME). The union traditionally nominated Democrats. AFSCME also endorsed Wisniewski's Democratic opponent, Kerry Trask, but not the incumbent, independent Robert Ziegelbauer. Sidener defended the nomination of Wisniewski as a Republican candidate by saying, "It is in our interest to see that Bob (Ziegelbauer) is defeated and having opponents from both parties helps that." [3]
The Republicans challenged the validity of all signatures on the nomination papers; however, election regulators on the Government Accountability Board put Wisniewski's name back on the ballot "after 11 nomination signatures originally misplaced were found, which put him over the 200 needed to qualify."[2]
