Originally from Defiance, Ohio, Sheila grew up in a working-class family with both parents earning their high school diplomas and in the country, literally surrounded by corn and soybeans. An 1993 Tinora High School graduate, Sheila earned her BS in Accounting from The University of Akron in 1998, her MS in Counseling and Student Personnel from Oklahoma State University, and her PhD in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University. After returning to Ohio in 2016 to be closer to her family, she got involved in the local democratic party. She is an active member of the Ada Village Council and the Ada Rotary.
  • Supporting Accessible and Affordable Healthcare
  • Reinvesting public money into all of levels of public education
  • Propping up our local farmers
My three key areas are accessible healthcare, public education, and our local farmers. A fourth is focused on solar and wind energy. These are what I have seen as crucial topics that can improve our community members' lives and well-being.
I believe the key quality that I have that would make me successful is my willingness to listen to others and to compromise. I value integrity and honesty.
The core responsibilities for a state representative is to represent their constituents. That is who elected them. The representative needs to support bills that will help the people in their district, along with all of Ohio.
The first historical event that I remember is the Challenger explosion in 1986. I was 10 years old. It was devastating to watch. I remember how excited we all were because there was a teacher on board.
My first job was working at Wendy's while in high school. I started the summer between my junior and senior years. I remained there during college breaks (summer and winter) until I graduated in 1998. I loved working at Wendy's.
Yes, I do. Compromise AND collaboration are necessary. It's like any relationship; no one is going to get everything they want all the time. Isn't it better to get a little and give a little.
