Alabama Legislative Services Agency
The Alabama Legislative Services Agency is a nonpartisan, all-purpose legislative service agency that is dedicated to serving the members and staff of the Alabama Legislature.
Mission statement
The Alabama Legislative Services Agency is established for the purpose of serving the state of Alabama by supporting the Legislature with expert, non-partisan fiscal analysis, legal advice, and bill drafting.[1]
Governance
The Legislative Services Agency is led by a director who is responsible for the day to day operations of the bureau.[2]
Divisions
Fiscal division
The Fiscal Division is responsible for providing independent, accurate and objective fiscal information to members of the Alabama House and Senate.[3]
Law revision division
The Law Revision Division is responsible for clarifying and simplifying the laws of Alabama, to revise laws that are out-of-date and to fill in gaps in the law where there exists legal confusion.[4]
Legal division
The Legal Division is responsible for bill drafting and legal research office serving the Legislature of the State of Alabama. The Legal Division is also charged with overseeing the administrative rules process.[5]
History
In 2017, the Legislative Fiscal Office, Alabama Law Institute, Legislative Reference Service became divisions of the Legislative Services Agency.[3][4][5]
