MADISON, Wisconsin: Florida had 27 U.S. House seats and 1 U.S. Senate seat on the ballot in 2012. A total of 24 of the 25 U.S. House incumbents sought re-election and were victorious on November 6, 2012. Bill Nelson retained his U.S. Senate seat. Florida gained two new seats in the 2012 election. Republicans still hold the majority with 17 seats while Democrats hold 10 seats, up from the 6 they previously held. Perhaps the most interesting race was for the 18th Congressional District, where Democrat Patrick Murphy defeated incumbent Allen West in a race that took over a week to officially call.
