- In 2011 and 2013 Bernie Sanders sponsored the Keeping Our Social Security Promises Act with the purpose of protecting Social Security for future generations. S.1558 and S.500 proposed amending "the Internal Revenue Code to apply employment and self-employment taxes to remuneration up to the contribution and benefit base and to remuneration in excess of $250,000."[2][3]
- In March 2013, Sanders threatened to "filibuster any grand bargain that cuts entitlement benefits," while Congress negotiated a deal to replace the sequester.[4]
- Sanders voted against H.R.3734 - the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, which reformed the welfare system and created some work requirements in order to receive welfare. It became law on August 22, 1996.[5]
