Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Noteworthy events
Voting fraud
Ayala surrendered to state police on September 26, 2014, facing multiple counts of voting fraud. She was charged with eight misdemeanor counts of fraudulent voting, ten felony counts of primary or enrollment violations and one felony count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. She was accused of voting in a number of elections between 2009 and 2012 in a district where she did not reside. Ayala also allegedly gave fabricated evidence to State Elections Enforcement Commission investigators. The criminal investigation did not affect her term of office, which ended in January 2015.[7] On March 25, 2015, Ayala rejected a plea deal from Assistant State's Attorney Christopher Alexy.[8] Shortly before trial in September 2015, Ayala accepted a different plea deal, where, in exchange for pleading guilty, Ayala would not seek office for two years.[9]
Hit and run charges
Ayala faced hit and run charges after an accident on August 15, 2012, in which police alleged that she fled the scene of an accident.[10] Ayala appeared on the ballot in the general election as the Democratic nominee as the charges against her were not felonies.[11] Ayala entered a plea of not guilty to the charges on October 16, 2012.[10] She was ultimately fined $350.[12] Ayala defeated her general election opponent one month later, earning 89 percent of the vote.
