Eleanor Kinnaird
Eleanor Kinnaird (b. November 14, 1931) is a former Democratic member of the North Carolina State Senate, representing District 23 from 1996 to August 19, 2013.[1] Kinnaird resigned over her ongoing frustration with the state legislature's Republican majority, and planned to work in grassroots advocacy, in particular preparing voters for the state's new regulations requiring presentation of photo identification at the polls.[2]
Biography
Kinnaird earned her B.A. from Carleton College in 1953. She went on to receive her M.M. in Music from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1973. Kinnaird also earned her J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 1992. Her professional experience includes working as a music teacher, library technical assistant and attorney. Kinnaird served as Mayor of Carrboro from 1987 to 1996.

Kinnaird ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on May 8. She defeated Dave Carter (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[3]

Kinnaird won re-election to the North Carolina State Senate District 23, defeating Ryan Hilliard (R) in the general election on November 2.[4]

2008
On November 4, 2008, Kinnaird was re-elected to the 23rd District Seat in the North Carolina State Senate, besting Jon Bass (R).[6] Kinnaird raised $55,615 for her campaign, while Bass did not raise any money.[7]
